Paint Makes All Things Better, Even Junque…

I’m in the midst of readying for an occasional sale at  the end of this month. Remember when I started purging back in January? Well, everything I am tired of, plus some items that I’ve found thrifting the past few weeks will be going into this sale.  I actually found this bright red finial back in the fall.  I knew I would change out its color- neutral will be a much better palette.

finial

I want to  make it look more like stone, so I used black spray paint to change the base color.  Then I used a specialty texture paint that is supposed to give the item the look of stone.  It’s taking forever to dry- the weather turned cold and rainy this afternoon, so the temperature out in the garage cooled off dramatically.  Once the stone paint dries, I’ll glaze it and then  it will be coated with a protectant coat.  I’ll see how well it dries tomorrow morning-  I’ll be spending the day at home, waiting for the repairman to come and try to figure out why I have such crazy HD reception.  I can’t watch some of my favorite shows- and heaven knows I’m a boomer who is addicted to television!

finial

Here’s the finial with its first coat of “stone.”  Looks a bit splotchy and funky right now, but tomorrow I’ll put on a coat of brown glaze.  It actually DOES feel rough like stone.

wicker makeup table

I found this beauty of a wicker dressing table and stool last week- perfect for a  young girl’s room or a small bath.  It just needed a  fresh coat of white paint.  Uh oh…. I see that have to place a spot of glue on a loose piece of wicker on the front apron- but that’s an easy peasy fix. I completely forgot to do that before I started painting.

I’ll pop back tomorrow after I play around a  little more with the finial.  I’m linking to:

I used that stone spray paint before on an outdoor planter and it worked out well. I thought the texture was great, but can't for the life of me figure out how it comes out of the can like that. Love the wicker vanity. Very cute.

That little wicker table and stool are darling and I can't wait to see how the finial turns out. I thought of getting that stone paint once, but chickened out. Now I'm really interested in seeing how you finish it.

I kind of liked the old red on the finial before but will withhold judgment until I see the finished piece.
I have fallen in love with the wicker table and stool. It's just lovely.

I actually used that stone texture paint on a concrete fountain that my parents had when I was a little girl. I inherited it and that paint has withstood outdoor weather for almost 10 years! I want to have a garage sale sometime in June...don't think I will have time for it in May though. Good luck with yours!~Hugs, Patti

The final looks good, can't wait to see the end redult.
Of course I love the wicker! My porch is filled with it. Dh says it looks like a rest home porch with all the white wicker out there. He is right, it is my home and I like resting out there! :)
I find the Krylon is the best for the wicker, and I have tried them all, should have bought stock!

Sue~so nice catching up with you. Looks I've got perfect timing, just in time for a peek at your redo projects. I've worked on a few items with the (faux) stone spray and it does add a fantastic texture.
I just wished spray paint could work wonders on me as a canvas, lol.

Sweet wishes,
Sara

You've been outside in our nice weather, spray painting away...me too!! FINALLY we got a warm day! What a wonderful relief to not hear the furnace running.

That wicker set is delightful & I think your filial is going to make a grand statement. Can't wait to see it complete.
I remember seeing Martha Stewart smearing YOGURT all over her stone pots to make them grow mossy & green. Yuck!

Enjoy the sunshine!

I love that wicker set...it would be a great desk with a piece of glass fitted on top. I used the stone look paint to redo topiaries a while back and I loved how they turned out. I didn't even glaze them like I thought I would, they looked so natural from just the paint!

Hi Sue! Thanks for visiting my blog and your nice comment! I love that finial. It does look like the stone or cement that I see being sold at a place near by that sells bird baths, statutes, fountains, etc.

Hey Sue! If you have DirecTV(didn't see if you said that, I may have overlooked it if you did), and your HD goes out in rainy/windy weather...just go to your display in menu and put that you want to see duplicate channels..you can still get regular ones while HD is out. We have to do this. If you don't have DirecTV, well, I just told you useless info, LOL!!! love the finial!
