Bessie the Bovine

I hit a couple of yard sales last week, but since it was Easter week, there really weren’t too many of them. But I did manage to find something that caught my eye….

hutch2

Did you spot it? It’s right up there on the top shelf of my kitchen hutch…..  Keep your eyes “moo”-ving…..

cow butter dish

Here she is. The latest acquisition to my collection of “whites”  is this bovine butter dish!   I’d been having a really crummy day trying to find things and was on my way home when I decided to stop at an unadvertised sale a block away from last stop I had just made.  The homeowner had multiple tables  of over-priced stuff that I had no interest in, and I was actually hurrying my way out of the overcrowded garage when I spotted this beauty.   Did I mention that I was anxious to pay for a bag of wine corks and was actually trying to get out of the heavy haze of the woman’s cigarette smoke?  Eeewww….  I’m not used to being around smokers!

I shot her a $5.00 price for the two items and she readily accepted it. Woo Hoo!   I left for home, vowing to soak this cow in hot water and bleach- poor thing had come from a smoking home, after all.   After a nice Clorox bath, I put her in with a regular dishwasher load. She came out sparkling clean and disinfected and ready for her new home on the hutch.

Isn’t that face just as sweet as it can be?

hutch

First thing this morning I removed all of my Easter decorations from the hutch, so now it’s back to normal.  I think Bessie the Bovine fits in quite well, don’t you?

Here’s to better thrift shopping this coming week!

It looks right at home. :D Did the corks not smell of smoke also? I would think it would be impossible to get the smell out of them.
Storms getting ready to roll thru, so plans for today got changed.
Have a good one.

Bessie is so cute and looks very happy to be in her beautiful new home. LOVE your hutch and your arrangement of your blue and white.
I REALLY need to rearrange my hutch, but I need more "accessories". Hmmm maybe I should go shopping.
Have a great Monday,

Very cute, Sue! I have seen creamers like this in some of the specialty kitchen and food catalogs. Isn't it wonderful how you can have something jump out at you when you think there is nothing there? That happens to me a lot at sales.

Hope you had a wonderful Easter!

XO,
Jane

Hi Sue! Oh, I love little Bessie and how sweet you were able to spiff her up and get all that old smoke smell and grime off of her. She looks brand new and I'm sure she thanks you for her new life! I love your pretty hutch too.
Congratulations on the be featured blog at The Picket Fence! :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Ethel I don't know of anyone who dismantles decorations faster than you. Whoosh...gone in 60 seconds.
Love the little cow. Whatcha gonna do with the wine corks?
I pay a bundle for my wine corks because they all come with this pesky bottle attached to them. Then I have to dispose of the contents so I can have the corks. Have you ever seen how many corks I have. I should be ashamed but I'm not. Lol.

I love it! I found you through At the Picket Fence, and I can already tell that I like your style. That butter dish would have been right up my alley as would the other treasures you have displayed around it.

And I agree about the smoke, too.

Nice to "meet" you!

The bovine butter dish would look fabulous on my barnboard cabinet.

Not been to any yard sales, but plan to check out a new shop in town that promises refurbished furniture. Curious about that furniture.

Bessie has found her perfect home! I love her!!! I grew up on a cattle farm so I do love me some cow things! Your hutch looks beautiful! Thanks so much for your sweet comment on my editing post. If you are interested in learning, I highly recommend Amanda's class. She was awesome and at $60, you can't beat it! I also did the trial versions of two different ones and just quit trying to even play with it as it was so confusing. Her class was really great and I feel so much better about it now! I am going to play around with it for a bit more and then do her next class!

My husband used to smoke, and I was so glad when he quit :-) He didn't smoke in the house though. Your little bovine butter dish is so cute.

Did you figure out which furniture set you're going to get? I tend to prefer the look of fabric, but when we were given nearly new leather couches a couple of years ago, I didn't realize how much I'd love them. They've been great with my kids! Both sets you were considering were beautiful.
Blessings,
Marcia

Hi Sue!

After your experiences with painting walls, I think you've changed my judgmental heart (or is that mind?). I do agree that those paint chips are wonky-colored and would hate to live with a color on my walls that wasn't perfectly "me."

And thanks so much for the lemonade tip! I'm going to have to try that! And it sounds so simple, but the straw tip is genius. I've had a canker sore on my lip for the last couple weeks and cringed at the thought of drinking orange juice or lemonade but duh, I could use a straw! Sometimes my brain just doesn't work like it should.

Thanks again!
Emily

I love Bessie...now, where was I before?, I didn't see this post with all the beautiful blue and white things in that hutch! Now, my mom gave my daughter a white cow butter dish that also rested in a basket, very cute. Thank you for coming by and for the nice comments. I was bad with plants too, until I learned about plants and the light they needed from my Mil, she knew so much!
