Talking To The Hand and Slowly Adding More Christmas

Talk to the hand!

Does anybody remember that old phrase?

This is one huge ceramic hand!  It’s an authentic ceramic mold used by a New Jersey manufacturing company for the production of men’s and women’s gloves.  The hand was a purchase at the French Hen Farmhouse fall sale back in October.  I found a smaller one at the Christmas sale yesterday, but haven’t set it out yet.

This vignette on top of the entertainment center very simple- I  just took a square sea grass basket and filled it with fresh evergreens and sugar pinecones. Then I added a silver twig reindeer sleigh in the center and added in more greens, pods, and dried artichokes.

The holiday theme in this room this year is definitely silver. The tray got a touch of bling in this side table vignette with the addition of a small bottle brush tree adorned in glitter and soft pastel colored balls. The crystal compote holds potpourri that makes the room smell just like Christmas.

Sitting on top of an old dictionary is this sparkly snowflake tree made out of simple wire set into a block of wood covered with faux snow.

The clock is a church rummage sale find. A bargain at fifty cents, I’d say, because it keeps perfect time.

I’m still far from done with my holiday decorating, but I finished up another tree today so at least I feel as if I’ve accomplished something. I spent yesterday in Marysville, Ohio shopping and lunching with some fellow Ohio bloggers. French Hen Farm had its Christmas barn sale and we all found lots of pretty things for the holidays. Plus, it was fun to visit with old friends and meet new ones. But guess who had no camera?  I think I’ll blame it on the fact that I left the house in the dark of early morning  and I was concerned about driving in snowy weather.  But guess who found the darn thing much later- hidden under my jacket out in the car?  Surely all this forgetfulness couldn’t be related to the fact that I just had another b-day, could it?  I’ll be borrowing photos from a couple of blogging friends for my post on the sale.  That is, if I can first get some more decorating done tomorrow!  That hand better be telling me to get going, FAST !!

I’m joining Mary for Mosaic Monday at Little Red House.

Sue, you are forgetful or crazy like me. It is the age thing I hate to say. Your decorations are looking good. I love the snowflake tree.

You are so talented in making your vignettes come to life! I just looked outside and we have at least an inch of snow on the ground...glad it didn't come yesterday on our shopping trip together! I can't wait to see your pics from the barn sale. I went back last night and the place was absolutely beautiful in the evening. It was all lit up and looked so warm and inviting!!

Pretty, pretty. But I love the big tobacco sifter. Isn't that what it is called? We saw a lot of those while out antiquing/junking in the mountains at Thanksgiving. I really want one, and may just have to get one when we go back.

I agree, sometimes we're just on overload. I've said that a couple of times lately to my huby.
Everything is looking good at your house.

Must be the busy schedule we keep, age has nothing to do with forgetfullness, LOL. Love the mosaic. Take care:)

My 19yo cannot keep up with a camera Sue and hers is more expensive than mine (I did not buy it). You are busy. Love the sifter and glove mold display although the hand might be creep at night up there:D merry♥O

Sue, that hand is so darn cute! I've been wondering how many trees you had up. I'm so glad you're up to it this year! I've barely started. Rain and a tweaked knee are keeping me from hauling things down from the attic. I may have to go out and start fresh this year, for some reason walking through a store doesn't hurt as much as climbing stairs ;)

I'm sorry I haven't been by much, I'm just not able to spend as much time blogging right now. Hubby had a bad infection from a cut on his finger and spent 4 days in the hospital the week of Thanksgiving. He's finally going back to work tomorrow. I kept thinking about what your Mr. went through with his knee. They never identified what it was and his finger is still a littel swollen but much better. I hope to start decorating tomorrow. My daughter's tree is up but she wouldn't let me have any fun with it!
Hugs,
Dawn

Your decorations are so simple, but so elegant and beautiful. I just love it! I am on a mission to finish our house. I have one tree, the dining room, and the outside to finish with just a few touches here and there. My goal is to have it done by Tuesday! We will see how that goes! I can't wait to see your tree!

I do remember that Hand Phrase! It was all the rage in snappy comebacks...funny how they come and go, but the collectors in us are always on the look out for Handies! Beautiful mosaics and photos of your Christmas decor! Your blog is lovely!

I don't think it is age, I think it is having to retain so much info that MAKES you not remember. Love it all Sue, and I love that glove form!

That silver tree is very cute. I might try to make on of those since I bought some cheapo bottle brush ones at Home Depot last week and they need some help. Your displays all look wonderful.

It was so nice to get to finally meet you at the sale on Saturday. Wish I could have stayed longer.

Such pretty, pretty decorations Sue. I do love that little snowflake tree. You are sooo far ahead of me. I just can't seem to get into it this year and have decided not to put out as many decorations. I hope I keep my word on that! LOL! Once I see everything, I change my mind! ;)

Talk to the hand, remember it, I still use it all the time! What a cute vignette that is Sue! Don't feel bad, we should not put all this pressure to get it all done....it always get's done and then time to put it back. Enjoy, your home is looking smashing!

Everything is WONDERFUL... If I WERE to pick a favorite find "It's the Clock", I'm a Clock-aholic!!! I could NEVER pass up one of those beauties! Oh and if I'm going anywhere I "Need LISTS", even for ONE ITEM, I must write it down. A list for what I'm taking with my, and what I'm going after... Well, I think I covered everything, Hmmm, let me check my "List"...
Thank you for sharing, I LOVED your post!!!

Sue, I have never heard that expression! How about, Busier than a one armed paper hanger with the hives? LOL That's how I would describe my week!
You have such unique decor! Maybe on the hand you could put 5 GOLDEN Rings! :)
Now splain to me the talk to the hand!

Hi Sue, love the decorations. I passed up a clock similar to yours at GW recently...talked myself out of it. Now, seeing yours, I am regretting that!!! Oh, I need to stay away from the sweets myself. We'll be glad in January. Linda

Oh boy, have I heard that "talk to the hand"! My children were teens when that was around, and I heard it ALL of the time! I got so tired of it. Your hand is really cool, but I don't want to talk to it! Your Christmas decor looks great - I love the way you use something so unexpected and turn it into great decor! laurie

The hand is so unique (is it okay if I say "strange"?) and yet it looks just great in your vignette. I think I might have walked past something like that, never thinking how cool it could look.
