It’s feeling like fall…

~In my kitchen, anyway…

a

I knew the time was coming and sure enough….. the kitchen hutch is now reflecting fall!  It all started with this purchase~

tureen 2

I found this tureen over the weekend at a yard sale and once I placed it in the hutch, I knew it was time to change out the white dishes.

h

The green and rust stoneware dishes were layered with leaf shaped plates. There are matching bowls to finish out the look.

c

f

Salt and pepper shakers in the shape of a miniature pumpkin and gourd.

d

I added a basket of yellow silk flowers for some more color.  Most of you know I’m hardly a gardener, given my brown thumb, so someone will have to tell me what they are. I just thought that they were pretty.

Looking into the little cubby in the middle of the hutch, you can see  a cheese tray covered in sunflowers. The old scale topped is now topped with a little honey pot in the shape of a bee skep.

~~~~~
I may be rushing things- but today  just felt like a crisp autumn day, which, in turn, prompted the little kitchen makeover.
I even opened up several windows after searching in the garage to find some screens. We rarely have the screens on the windows; they go on for a short time in the spring before the weather gets too hot and humid, then they’re taken off  once the air conditioner gets turned on. I just don’t like the look of screens on the windows- the glass always looks so much cleaner without them.  Just another of my little idiosyncrasies….
I’m so ready for the fall. There’s something about autumn that always takes me back to my childhood in New Mexico.
I miss the warmth of the sun from brilliant turquoise colored skies. I want to hike in the mountains and gaze at a vast ocean of yellow  leaves twinkling from the branches of tall, white-barked aspen trees.  And I long for the smell of burning pinon wood wafting through the air from fireplaces and cook stoves.
Don’t you love how memories are triggered by certain sight, smells, and feelings?
~~~~~

I’m linking to Allison’s party on Thursday, Arties’s on Friday, and Laurie’s on Saturday. Why not pay them a visit and share some comment love with them and their participants.

I love your tureen and it is perfect in your hutch. It is still too hot here to consider even thinking fall thoughts. It's down to 90 and it feel like a "cool spell: :) Your hutch looks lovely and makes me wish for fall too. I think smell bring back more memories for me ---more than anything else!

Hi Sue! OH, your hutch looks wonderful! I love it all by itself and then look how you've dressed it! Fall is popping out all over it! Love it and the little basket with the little daisies (I think) in it.
I don't like the look of screens on windows either.
Be a sweetie,
shelia ;)

Sue, I love that black hutch and it looks great all dressed and ready for fall. It is cooler here too. Less humidity this week which surely helps it feel better. I think those are black eyed Susans. Love all your dishes.

It looks gorgeous. I'm not near ready to decorate for fall...we are still so hot there isn't even a hint that it might be coming! I love looking at the stuff and planning, but I'm keeping my summer out a while longer. Enjoy your nice weather!

I am so ready for fall, but the temps here in the desert are still in the 109s and above. Way too soon for us, but I find myself celebrating my favorite season anyway. Your decor is lovely and I love your dishes in your hutch, Char

I really like your Fall decor with the little touches - like the pretty knife hanging off the board. Think I will wait a little longer here as I feel like I just put the Fall decor away! Around 90 today, but the humidity was down, so it was not as bad. I also noticed the air seemed a little more "clear" today
Hope you are having a great week.

Hi Sue....They look like Black Eye Susans to me...how appropriate since your name is Sue! The last few days have been so nice but mid 90's this weekend is not appealing!Your hutch looks very nice! Shades and colors of autumn is right around the corner. I am going to try and work out the time to go to Springfield Extravaganza that weekend. We have a work related event on Saturday but I want to try and do it this year. We will see! Hope you are doing well! ~Hugs, Patti

I love fall but I am not ready for summer to be over. I guess it is because we are that much closer to WINTER and I HATE winter. I just can't stand the cold and all that goes with it...but your fall things are so, so pretty and now you have me in the mood to get some of my stuff out. Perhaps this weekend.

No, no, no... No fall decor till Sept. 1st! Hubbby says so! If I wait till it FEELS like a crisp fall day it will be almost Christmas before I can decorate!

I am soooo wanting to start fall decorating. Yours looks great.

And I don't think I ever noticed your scale before. That's so cute. I have one but it's bright bright white - I bought it because it was very cheap at a garage sale, but I've never loved it. I guess I have scale envy.

Kathleen said...

Were your ears ringing? I talked about you in my post.
Actually, I don't think YOU should use the word FALL at all, if you git my drift, eh?

Your display looks so pretty. By the time I do one it will be time for Christmas! I really don't have a spot for displays in the kitchen. Well I guess I could, but I'd rather just come over and look at your work!

I love it Sue! It's beautiful!

We are finally having some fairly decent cool temps, so it is beginning to feel like Fall might really arrive in three or four weeks. We were beginning to wonder!

What a lovely hutch display. I know what you mean about the pinion pines, I lived in Arizona for a time and there is nothing like the smell of them (especially in the fall).

Beautiful Fall display, Sue! All of the oranges and blacks really have me thinking about Halloween! It's so HOT (up to 108 degrees this week) here in California that I can't even get motivated about Fall yet. I'm just hoping for cooler weather soon!
Thanks for sharing your Fall decor with us... it's lovely!

I love your hutch and it is such a nice one to decorate! I have my dining room hutch/china cabinet that you've inspired me to either change out or add to with some Fall color. Especially since I have a great copper color on the walls in there.

Sue, Everything loos so beautifully fallish!! It's FINALLY cooling off in KC.....so the mood to put out oranges and greens is finally stirring inside me!!

I loved seeing your comment about my jogging and your days of hi-impact exercising. Up until now, I've done lots of step classes....they seem to get my heart rate up better, without the jumping it takes in floor aerobics where lots of hops are required to do that. I hope my knees hold out. I truly enjoy the jogging...and I'm taking it easy. I only do it two-three times a week. It's just great to find something that's different and is, at the same time, a real challenge.

It was so sad to see the homestead grown over.....I know that's probably a good thing to do...let it go back, but I get sentimental over what it had been and the memories it represents. We do see loads of old barns in shambles....folks just let them go. I hate that, too! BUT I don't own them or have the responsibility for upkeep...easy for me to say what to do about them, huh? :) Anyway, it is wonderful that you do have such great photos.

Hope all is well with you! L, Dana

Very inspiring, Sue! I just went to my bakers rack & re-did a few things, based on your hutch. :D

Its a good thing you don't have that link-thing-a-ma-bob that shows who visited & for how long...my name would be on there for HOURS! I just love listening to your music & try to leave your blog open as long as possible. Thanks for coloring my days!!!
