Taking it Step by Step…

sore head

Yes, my head is still sore and I’ll have a few some bumps and bruises for a while, but I felt so much better today!  I want to sincerely thank all of  you for your kind wishes for a speedy recovery from my fall and my concussion. Today was the first day that I didn't spend in bed.  Now that is an accomplishment! I'm off the pain meds and it is such a relief to feel semi-human again. Falling down and cracking one’s head on a concrete slab and ceramic tile really puts a damper on things!

The hospital staff said that it's going to take some time to get back to normal (… no wise cracks here, please!) and my girlfriend who is a physical therapist says I need to take everything slowly - step by step.  But, I've been so bored! I can't wait for the day that I'm able to take a brisk walk around the neighborhood, drive to the grocery store, or just stand up without getting light-headed. I've taken the ability to do these ordinary things for granted, and I realize that I was pretty lucky not to have been injured any more than I was.

I want to finish up some blog reading tonight- my vision isn’t blurred and my head doesn’t ache like it did before, so I'm anxious to see what all of you have been up to these past six days. My goal over the few weeks is to do a little tweaking to a project I started a few weeks ago and to create a cloche or two for Marty's party.  I know I may only  accomplish a fraction of what I expect to do in that time because I’ve come to the realization that baby steps will take longer…

Thanks once again for sending good thoughts and prayers my way. Blogging friends truly are a blessing!

SUE! How did I miss this??? I had to surf backward and see what had happened to you! I am soooo sorry! This could have been so much more serious let me tell you! I am so glad you were wise enough to go to the hospital and get checked out thoroughly!

Take it EASY! Hope you feel better soon!

Sue~~

So happy to see you blogging...which means you must feel better! Oh, I do know what you mean about taking things for granted. I went through a three year phase where my asthma flared up every few weeks and I was hospitalized so many times I can't count. I would lie in that bed thinking of all the closets I could be cleaning out or the silver that needed polishing...just crazy stuff because I felt so HELPLESS!!

But I am glad you are better. Take it easy though. Don't rush your recovery. Enjoy all the attention you are getting!! ;-)

I'm glad to see a post from you Sue. Now I don't want to make you laugh, because I'm sure it still hurts to move too much, but did you just happen to have a little card that said "A sore Head" lying around? LOL! Oh girl, please take care of yourself!
A gentle hug,
Dawn

Oh I just feel so bad for you. Silly little accidents can really put us out of commission, can't they? Do get better. :)

When I whacked my head the last time my Dr. explained that we really do have rocks in our head. Somewhere in the inner ear you have these little chalk like bits and when you have a head trauma they are all shaken up instead of a cohesive mass. This causes dizziness until they eventually settle back down to their regular position.
Here is a snippet from a med site:

When the head leans front, back or sideways, the chalk granules push against the hairs, and bend them in a different direction. This sends off new messages to the brain, which can then, if needed, send out instructions to the muscles to immediately adjust the position of the body.

Well get better, take it easy.

OOOOH Sue- I feel like such a horrid friend to not have known this-- I had to scroll back a bit to see your exit post.

I am so glad you were able to call 911 -- hope those firemen and medics were handsome (of course most of them are :)

I have been working like crazy and have not taken the time to enjoy my favorite bloggers. That is my only excuse-- please excuse me and know that I am sooo happy you are feeling better.

Biggest of hugs!!

Hi Sue...I missed the post about your accident...So I'm happy to hear you are not in the hospital...My gosh..what an easy thing to have happen, how often are our kitchen floors slick with a bit of spilled water or a melted ice cube that has fallen out of the dispenser..you just never imagine that you might slip like that and hit your head...so glad you were able to get to a phone and call 911...paramedics are the best. I have been there before and fireman are even better....And you have a good nurse bringing you food...dear Susie Q....Feel better real soon...

Hi, Sue! I'm glad to hear you are doing better and on the mend. I had some surgery several years ago, and ended up with complications which meant spending much more time in the house than I planned. I know - it gets pretty tedious after a while. Take care, and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Sue~ So sorry to hear about your fall and concussion. I hope you're feeling better real soon. Especially to take that (short) walk in time to enjoy the Autumnal colors.

I'm wishing a Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones.
Even though our Thanksgiving is very small in number, with my two guests, hubby and son (we don't count the cat she doesn't like turkey), we don't scrimp on the menu...from appetizers to desserts! A tryptophan delight, lol!

Sweet Holiday Wishes,
Sara
