A Clear Head and No Mug Shot

Complete clarity! That’s what I had for the first time yesterday after conking my head and ending up with a concussion a week and a half ago.  I felt so good that I actually ventured out and drove to the license bureau to renew my driver’s license and my car tags before they expire on my birthday onThursday. This was a monumental accomplishment for me, since it was the first day I had not had a headache or been dizzy.

You cannot imagine how hard it’s been to be cooped up inside a house doing little else but watch television and take naps. But all that “beauty sleep” seemed to have paid off for my driver’s license picture, because for once, it’s a half-way decent photo!

license picture

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I have a real aversion to having an ID that looks like a mug shot from a police lineup. Why do those license bureau employees always snap the shutter when you’re in the middle of a blink even though they tell you they won’t take the picture until the count of three? And how do you know if they’re going to take it that picture ON the count of three or AFTER the count of three?

Now, I’m sure you see all those strange wiggly lines all over my face... Well, the state of Ohio has recently implemented some new security features for driver’s licenses. The driver’s birthdate is  printed over the photo, and there are all sorts of strange holographic images and lines throughout the license background- even over the driver’s face.  Disclaimer: I really do NOT have protruding veins or deep frown furrows!  I only admit to the beginnings of a few laugh lines.

At least for the next four years that this license is valid, I won’t be overly ashamed to show it, despite the chubby chipmunk cheeks. And since I plan on implementing a major diet and exercise regime after the holidays, I refuse to worry if the weight information on the license information is a little a whole lot  inaccurate.  Ahem…. Does anybody need a dieting buddy starting in January?!

I told the clerk that the information on the expiring license was still correct. What I had meant to convey was that my address information was still correct. She must have inferred that I meant EVERYTHING else, because she kept the my same weight info that was on there from four years ago. Whoops… My bad.

Heaven forbid that the license bureau should ever become the weight police and determine the need to install a scale in their offices for the sake of accuracy!   LOL Wouldn’t you just hate to have that information available for everyone in the room to see or hear?!  I would hope it would never come to that!  “Big Brother” knows too much about us, as it is.

So now that I’m finally feeling like my old self, I need to get busy and catch up on so much. I’ll be celebrating my birthday on Thursday and Mr. Sullivan and I will spend Friday bringing down the holiday decorations from the attic. We’d like to set up as many trees as we can so I can start working on them next week. It will be a whirlwind decorating spree!

Once again, I want to thank all of you for the get-well wishes and prayers that you sent while I’ve been laid up and looney. It meant so much to read them. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day with your loved ones!

lots of hugs,

I'm glad you are feeling better!

Your license picture is great! I just outright lie about my weight, I guess. Like you, mine has said the same thing for the 20 years we've lived in Oklahoma. It won't change either!!

So glad you're feeling better, Sue!
I remember taking a small plane from Point A to Point B once. They required everyone to stop on a scale - and also weigh their luggage to be able to fly. I almost took the Greyhound instead, but I didn't have time! No way for a girl to fudge her weight there. grrrr
Your photo looks great! I agree with Stacey. Until they install a scale at the DMV - I'm going to "guess-timate" my weight for them!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi Sue.... I have been thinking about you and wondering if you were feeling yourself again. Glad to hear that you are better! I must have got my driver's license before the "veins" came out! lol..I hate to have my photo taken for that thing! I think I am due again in 2 years....can't wait! I am definitely going to focus on my weight more seriously after the first of the year but in the meantime I am trying to be good. 5 years ago I started WW and I consistently lost weight each week and lost a total of 30 lbs. Well, that weight has crept up again....I can't imagine how? Anyway, have a great Thanksgiving and be careful and don't overdo!~Hugs, Patti

Hooray Ethel. Looking good. You should see my passport photo. It makes my Costco card photo look like a magazine cover.
As for the weight it is none of their business. It is something that changes so often it has little or no bearing on the license.
My niece's husband is an RCMP officer and had to testify at a drunk driving trial. The defendant had gained 100+ pounds since his arrest and therefor could not be absolutely identified. Case dismissed.
So now that you are not laid up are you still looney?

So glad you're feeling better. My drivers license picture is awful! I'll be getting a new one next year I think.

Can't wait to see all your trees up and decorated. I'm lucky I can get one done! I hope to put it up on Thanksgiving because we are celebrating a day early. We've never done that before but it just seemed to work out better for everyone. I'm looking forward to a quiet Thanksgiving day.

Hello hotstuff! Great picture! I always take awful license pictures. The last one I tried to lift my head up so it wouldn't look like I had a double chin, and I just ended up looking constipated!
Glad to hear you're up and around, and I hope you have a great Thanksgiving!

Oh goooood....I'm so happy to hear you're feeling better. That was one bad conk on the head. You have to feel better...it's nearly your big day! And, the WHOLE country will be celebrating. :-)

You have a GREAT picture!......mine is always horrible....I've considered re-takes, but have never gotten to it. And the weight thing? I'm surprised they don't keel over laughing. One of these days, in their infinite wisdom, they're going to figure out how to weigh you and take your picture at the same time. I'll stop driving.

Big hugs and Thanksgiving wishes Sweet Sue....

Hi Sue,

So glad you are feeling better and getting out and about! Wow that is a great DL photo! You look great girl.. not a wrinkle on you! So whats your secret?!

Oh, and if they start putting scales in at the DMV I'll probably stop driving!! Although I've lost about 25-30 lbs. in the last 5 months so I'm closer to what it says on my DL than I've been in a long time!!

Hope you have a really nice Thanksgiving!

Well you're sounding a whole lot better! I don't believe I've ever in my life had a good picture on my driver's license. My face seems to have an aversion to good photo ops. Yours looks great and you have a wonderful smile. And you've a Thanksgiving birthday! My first child was born on Thanksgiving. Since it was a C-section, I said I was the carved turkey that year.

It's good to hear you are out and about, Sue!

I love the photo. The one I have now is just right. I have one of the 7 year licenses. I will have to renew next year. I am dreading the new picture because the one I have now is the best I've ever had in all the years we've had photo licenses!!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

Sweet Sue~I'm strolling in to see how you're feeling (lookin' good) and especially to wish you and your loved ones a Happy Thanksgiving!
It's such a wonderful time to stop and reflect on all those we cherish and are truly grateful for.
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to visit and leave feeling inspired!

Even though our Thanksgiving is very small in number, with hubby and son (we don't count the cat cause she doesn't like turkey). We don't scrimp on the menu...from appetizers to desserts with several carb loaded dishes in between! We will be enjoying tryptophan playoffs too!

Sweet Holiday wishes,
Sara

Happy Birthday and I hope you've had lovely Thanksgiving!

Bless your heart, a concussion? I'm so relieved to know you're alright.

Lovely photo, no surprise, though. I think I must have had my DL renewed the same day and I look like the "before girl" to your pic. Ugh.

Hi Sue....glad your feeling better and that you were able to get out of the house!! A very good drivers license picture but I must say mine is better...You see in Georgia we can renew by mail every four years so I have been 125 pounds and I have looked the same for the past 15 years...What a deal!! Make sure you follow me on the new blog, Sue, as the old blog may not be there for long. Hope you continue forward with recuping.

Sorry about your concussion, they are NO fun to have. Your license pics is wonderful. This year mine was pretty dreadful & she actually asked me if I wanted it retaken ... I said, 'now do you REALLY think a cop is going to look at me or my pics & make a 'hit' on me?' She laughed, ugly pics delivered.

Oh, my, Sue, I didn't know about your accident. (I've been out of the blogging loop for awhile, due to sick parents.) I am glad to hear you are feeling better!

I think your DL photo came out great! I've yet to have one taken that I like in all my years of driving.

Take care,

Jane

I'm so glad you're feeling better and Happy Belated B-day! Despite the weird lines across your picture that is one of the best photo-IDs I've seen! You look great and I'm sure the weight on there is just a beautiful example of what you will be after the holidays :). My weight on my license has always been my "ideal" weight which typically runs about 15 lbs less than my actual weight. Seriously? Is it any of their business??? ;)

Hi Sue! I was so tickled to hear from you! You must be feeling better! What a relief that must be for your family! I am laughing about the weight thing. I never change mine...lol! Mine is now renewed for 10 more years with a picture from 5 years ago. I hate the picture, but I figure that in 10 years, I'll think it looks pretty good! Happy week! Take care!...hugs...Debbie

Hi Sue!

I'm sorry I didn't know you had hurt yourself but I'm glad to know you are now feeling better! I know how you felt as I have a stress fracture in my foot and I am supposed to stay off of it as much as possible, and keep my leg elevated and iced...a little hard to do when Thanksgiving dinner had to be cooked...lol. It's so annoying not to be able to keep up the same routine. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Your drivers license photo looks great..we are almost the same age...happy belated birthday!! NYC has kept renewing my drivers license with the same photo taken about 15 years ago! I was young, thin, and had "frosted" blond hair back then..lol..and sadly I look nothing like that anymore. I know one of these renewals they will be requiring a new photo and I will not like seeing what 15+ years has done to me.

Thank you for putting my teapot on your sidebar! I have you in for three entries...good luck! I can't wait to see whose name gets picked out!

Hugs, Pat

So glad your noggin's feeling better! It was nice to hear from you. LOL! "Laid up and Looney" sounds like a bad B movie!

We have one tree up so far, a small pink one in my girl's room. Still have two big ones to send sliding down the attic stairs. Maybe tomorrow. The hole on the back of those little houses are teeny-tiny. I bought a mini light string and hope it will work. I hadn't even thought about an adaptor. I'll have to check it out.
Take it easy decorating!
