More Kitchen Tweaking…

I changed out my kitchen hutch last week to give it a new fall look. It used to look like this~ all dressed in white, with the green/white wine plates accenting the place settings.

plate 1    plate 2

plate 3      plate 4

But  now it looks like this~   hutch

The mellow colors of fall are accenting the distressed black finish of the hutch and the mood is warmer and a little more cozy…

I bought both the green and the butterscotch plates at Kroger for a paltry 94 cents each. The leaf plates  and leaf bowls were purchased at Wal Mart for $3 and $2, respectively. The bowls are filled with clusters of “grapes” made from buckeye nuts.

They really DO look like grapes, don’t they?

I thought the shelf looked a little bare, so I twirled some aspen leaves around the bowls. I like this look a little better.

My Target birds salt and pepper shakers that had been perched on top of the scale were replaced with a set that better suits the season.

This miniature pumpkin and gourd match the leaf plates and bowls.

Adding a touch of whimsy to the hutch doors are the jack o’lantern bells and Bart the Bat.

candle jack

A rusty tin jack o’lantern candle holder sits between my pumpkin soup tureen and another stack of plates. He sends off a warm glow in the evening when we sit down to eat.

Many steaming hot soups have been served up from this tureen during the cold weather months. My favorite is my copy-cat recipe of Max and Erma’s Chicken Tortilla Soup.

I think this set of salt and pepper shakers is just so cute. I’m half expecting to see that black cat pounce on something!  Maybe he’s after what’s peeking out from under the pumpkin’s lid?

Meet Christopher Crow, who has taken up residence on my checkered tabletop.

This basket of sunflowers once hung on my front door, but it got moved to the kitchen when I fashioned my current front door basket.  The sunflowers and the basket were both yard sale finds.

I can’t believe I’m still tweaking my home for fall. Before long, I’ll be changing it all out for the Christmas holidays. Oh, but I’m trying not to think about that, quite yet!  I first want to enjoy the house in its autumn splendor.  Have a great week, all of you! I’m in North Carolina, checking out all the new trends at market. See you when I get back!

I’ve linked with Susan at Between Naps on the Back Porch  for Metamorphosis Monday. Please pay her a visit to see what she and her party participants have done this week.

Oh Sue! Everything looks so beautiful!

I really need to start ramping up on my plate/serving piece collecting. I have nothing to display at all, little own change with the seasons. Your 94 cent plates are making me green with envy...

Sue, you have some major cuteness going on in that cabinet! I see several shiny objects I would love, love, LOVE to have in my nest... like that cut out pumpkin, the crow, and the old scales! I love what you did with your shelves, and your door is pretty spiffy, too! Want to come to my house and decorate??? Be sure to bring all your goodies! :-)

Your hutch is beautiful! I mean the piece of furniture is wonderful. What you've done to make it "Fall-ish" is just perfect. The scale is really nice. Was that a yard sale find too?
I think you did a great job of celebrating the season.
Oh..., and I just love your Christopher Crow. He's the sweetest little crow I've ever seen.
Happy Autumn to you.

Sue-The hutch looks great. I love the new look and you have some great "deals" in it. Kroger sometimes has better dishes than dept. stores! All your details make it perfect!

Your hutch looks so pretty. I really love those leaf plates! I had to crack up when you said about decorating for Christmas. It won't be long before that happens. I'm still tweaking and adding though. I'll take it all down when the time comes. Actually, I can't wait for the after season sales. I usually get a lot of fall items on clearance for the next year.

It looks beautiful dressed in its fall finery! You have such a lovely home, so many artistic touches!
Yes...soon we will start Christmas. I have to start earlier and earlier to get finished!

When I was in college in Ohio I thought it was so funny to hear people say they were going Krogering! That would be like us saying we were going Macys ing! :) And we don't go to Macy's any more more more...
(it's the meds!) :)

I love your hutch. What a fun piece to decorate over and over. I love painted furniture and I love BLACK painted furniture especially. If I'm not careful our home could end up looking like it's inhabited by the Addams family.
I have difficulty remembering BUCKEYES [the name] and I have called them several embarrassing things. I just don't talk about them, ever (but I like 'em in your vignette. Nice nuts, Sue.)
Last weekend I took a tall, lean apothecary jar filled with leaves, berries, and mini gourds to the Darling.
Remember I told you I was inspired?
You have the very same jar.
I also created a crow ornament and coated it with black German glass glitter. You've got a sparkling crow somewhere too.
Thanks for the ideas!
