Just as the days are getting shorter as we enter into autumn, the yard sales are getting fewer and farther between. Mr. Sullivan and I ventured out on Friday morning but only bought one thing, even though we visited about a dozen sales. In fact, HE found it. I was busy looking for glassware when I saw him carrying this back to me. A small end table that we set out on the back patio. It was the perfect spot to set my outdoor bean pot lamp that I got a few weeks back.
I walked over to him to make sure he was not going to be overpaying for it. As it turned out, I didn't need to worry. This little table was a fantastic bargain. He smugly told me that it was a mere 75 cents !! I still need to tuck in a few of the wicket strands that have come loose and it will get a new coat of paint, but I think Mr. S. did really well, don't you? Just don't tell HIM. He's still walking around telling everyone that he finds better deals than I do...
Earlier in the week I visited one of my favorite antique malls. I came away with this $3.00 English stoneware sugar bowl. Added to my everyday white china, it will lend a burst of color with its sweet and delicate red pattern.
On the way back home, I stopped by a yard sale and found these two Christmas bowls for 50 cents each. They will be perfect to set out for dips this holiday season.
I have been lamenting the past few weeks that my mini food chopper is on its way to the garbage heap. It's so cracked that chopped bits of food come flying out of it while I'm using it. So when I spotted this brand new in the box Pampered Chef chopper, I was thrilled to pay only $3 for it. I checked the company's website and found out that it sells for $29.50. I am now ecstatic!
Well, even though I didn't purchase very many items this week, I'm satisfied. The ads in the paper and on Craig's List have been very limited and I don't think we'll be seeing too many more sales.
Oh well, I need to start spending some time bringing down the holiday decorations from the attic. I started on my fall items today. And before you know it, Thanksgiving and Christmas will be here. My goal is to have all 7 of my Christmas trees done by the end of November. I want to savor having them up as long as possible because they take so much work to set up.
Make sure you stop by to visit Rhoda and her Thrifty Treasures Monday Party. I'm sure there will still be plenty of participants who have found lots of goodies!
